GOOBERFEST – A FUNDRAISER

GOOBERFEST.

On behalf of Gordon and myself, we’d like to thank everyone for the incredible amount of kindness, solidarity and funding that has been shared over the last five days. At the time of writing this (Sunday afternoon), donations are passed the two grand mark. This absolutely blows our minds.

At this point I’m somewhat at a loss for words. Some kind human dropped an envelope containing a donation go towards the fundraising total and I have no idea who it was. To whomever it was, I’d like to extend the warmest thanks. The kindness of strangers and the support of friends, family and community is something to be cherished, especially in the most challenging of all times, and our gratitude cannot be overstated.

There is no place for hyperbole here. Thank you for all the support. Hopefully see you at Gooberfest.

If you’d like to donated to the GoFundMe page, please do so here.

Gordon James MacKenzie is an award-winning photographer with a Masters in Fine Art from DJCAD and a 25+ year portfolio. A creative collaborator and dear friend since long before the conception of MTAT, he has been one of the few constants in my life. Gordon is a proud single father of three beautiful children; he’s truly one of the good ones.

His work has been published everywhere from Italian Vogue to the sleeves of Fat Wreck Chords releases. An exhibition of his work is currently on display at Rad Apples. Gordon was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer a few years ago and, heartbreakingly, all treatments have been unsuccessful and his condition is now, very sadly, terminal.

On Saturday 12th March 2022, we’ll be hosting GOOBERFEST at Rad Apples with the aim of raising money to send Gordon and the kids on a last family holiday together. TRAGICAL HISTORY TOUR BAND will be playing a “headline” length set performing songs and bangers from across the cowpunk pantheon.

We’ll be joined for one night only by THE FAT WRECKERS, featuring members of The Overbites, Truth Ruiner and Goodbye Blue Monday (who play on Friday night with The Ghost Tape and Knives Chau Fan Club) covering classics from the Fat Wreck catalogue. Our pal THEE RAG N BONE MAN is going to open the evening’s musical entertainments in suitably maximumrocknrollruckus style and we’ll have some special guests joining us for a unicorn shit-rare acoustic performance. You like them and it’ll be guid.

There will be an exhibition, new works and an art sale from Debauchery Lee Designs and MacKenzie Foto, plus we’ll be hosting a one night only pay-what-you-want record and merch sale. There’ll also be a tombola with various sick prizes (donations for these still open!) and a raffle for some uber-limited signed and sealed photography prints from Gordon.

Tickets are ON SALE NOW and cost a TENNER. If there are any tickets left on the day, they’ll be £13 on doors. Please keep your eyes on the MTAT insta stories for up to the minute information.

Doors are at 6pm with music starting around 7pm. We expect things to wrap around 11pm and the bar upstairs will be open until midnight. If you’d like to dine at Rad Apples, we strongly recommend booking a table. Please do so through the Rad Apples Fb page.

I’d reckon it’ll be a somewhat emotional time.

Thank you. Derrick.
